Versatile Blogger Award – 2nd Award

I’m so grateful that His Perfect Timing nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. If you haven’t visited the His Perfect Time website, you are missing out! Thank you for the honour! This is my second Versatile Blogger Award – a Nigerian prince told me there was prize money the first time but I haven’t seen the check – fooled again, at least I didn’t send him any money this time lol !

The Rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  2. Share seven interesting things about yourself.
  3. Nominate seven blogs.

Seven interesting things about me:

  1.  I’m a checklist maker. From my days of touring theatrical productions and doing worship at churches far from home, a habit formed to avoid forgetting items needed for the presentation. I got laughed at and called obsessive but it was worth it. By the way, I don’t just check the items once, I check that they are pulled from their storage place, then check that they are packed in their transportation case, and finally check that the case is in the vehicle. It doesn’t stop there. I check that the item has been unloaded, that it is in its proper stage placement and works, then just before the presentation I make sure that it is still working. It’s amazing that I had any energy left to do the show!

I have epilepsy. That really isn’t the interesting part, many people have epilepsy. The interesting part is that my last seizure was on the 12th of December 2012, a minute or two after I checked my phone to see what time it was; the time on my phone was 12:10pm. That means my seizure took place on 12/12/12 at approximately 12:12.

I break piano strings. I have been told that if you break the hammers in a piano you are playing too hard but when you break strings it is more to do with your style of play. The late Rich Mullins broke two strings on a piano he played at a youth rally I attended. About 15 years later I played on that same piano at that same church. Although I didn’t break strings on it I later broke 2 strings on my piano – coincidence? You decide!

I broke a bone doing the splits. I was once into dance and was very flexible. Being a young teenage boy there was no way I would give up a chance to impress a cheerleader with my ability to do the splits. Her cheerleading flexibility against my dance flexibility. I won! I got all the way down to the floor without even warming up! That may be the reason there was a big crack just before I won. The broken bone was still 1cm out of place a year later. This break took place the same weekend as the Rich Mullins youth rally – coincidence? You decide!

I have a love hate relationship with the use of the title pastor. This is more strange than interesting. I enjoy the fact that I am a pastor and it is nice when people refer to me as a pastor in conversation but I hate being called Pastor Dave or Pastor Peever to my face. Until we start calling everyone else by their job title and name, I don’t want to be addressed as anything more than Dave or David.

I used to smoke 2-3 packs a day. I am blessed to have clear lungs 20 years after this terrible addiction. My first cigarette was in the 6th grade but I didn’t start smoking regularly until I was 18. Thankfully I only smoked for eleven years.

I still miss it. I don’t miss the cough. I don’t miss the smell on my clothes or in the car. I don’t miss the stains on my fingers. Still, every once in a while I miss it. The call to be a pastor doesn’t erase the desire to have a few puffs but the fear of being caught or worse still, becoming addicted again, sure offsets the cravings.

  1. JDP, a huge thank you; I don’t do the award thingy, but it’s great looking up some of the awardees. The hat guy has a wonderful site being that I love hats myself. 2nd shelf from the bottom, to the extreme right: pretty awesome. And of course I am acquainted with some of the others.
Thanks for the nomination; stay blessed in Christ. vw

    1. I kind of felt the same way but then I followed some of the links in the award because they were suggested by blogs I trust and found blogs I would otherwise not seen. Truth is I just like telling anyone who will listen about myself lol
