Propaganda

…the infusion of small amounts of truth into a batch of lies told over and over again until the lies themselves become truth. Propaganda is a weapon of war that should never be underestimated. If the evilest of dictators and the defenders of freedom both effectively use the twisted words of manufactured truth with some degree of success, then it would be wise to assume the Father of Lies has perfected its deployment.

I am worried about the church in North America.

I do not consider myself a historian but from what I gather those who call themselves Christians have often sought the comfort of a government that supports their beliefs.

The separation of church and state is a desirable concept when the beliefs of the state and the actions birthed from the blurring of government and faith don’t match the religious leanings we have. On the other hand when the government supports our way of life, our beliefs, this division is no longer desirable.

For the most part, Christians in Canada and the USA have enjoyed the comfort of sympathetic governments, legislation and funding. Because of this we have become soft and our reliance on God has been replaced by the pro-church structures enacted by the government of the day.

To weaken an army all you need to do is convince them they are safe.

Make no mistake, we are in a war, a world war. It is not a war of flesh and blood but it is against the rulers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of the heavenly realms (borrowed from Paul Ephesians 6:12). Satan and his evil army have used the relative religious calm of North American culture to convince us through his propaganda that we are safe, that we are protected, that nothing can defeat us as long as we ensure the government continues the policies of a good Christian country.

Propaganda, the infusion of small amounts of truth into a batch of lies.

We have been told over and over again that the stance of the government is intertwined with our faith and pro-Christian politics are the foundation of greatness – these lies themselves become truth. It is easier to live in a country that has a government, laws, programs and funding in place to support Christian values and morals; easier is not Godlier. This is the small amount of truth infused into a batch of lies.

While we fight for lawmakers that will enforce our beliefs and fund our programs the lost are forgotten and our faith weakened. Godly lifestyles end up relying on legislation and our Christian endeavours on government funding and income tax incentives. Have you ever thought about what would happen if the government stopped legislation of morality, stopped funding church programs and repealed incentives for giving?

Satan’s propaganda has made our faith vulnerable to political change and our discernment blind to ungodly behaviour.

We can’t go on expecting those who pander to the organized Christian vote to continue to be elected. At one time it paid to put out a platform that promised to enshrine everything Christian into law. You could almost guarantee a strong turnout of Christian supporters as long as you made promises that fit their agenda. It didn’t matter about your rumored affairs or perverse language, your disrespect for others or ungodly lack of love, you were a supporter of the Christian agenda so you got their vote.

Canada and the USA have changed.

Gone are the days when most people identified as Christian and shared common morality.

Gone are the days when the government reflected this.

Gone are the days when the church was the government’s chosen institution to help with financial assistance.

Now what do we do? North American Christianity is no longer supported by the government, we are no longer safe.

The propaganda spread by the Evil One has created groups of belongers not believers.

Once Christianity no longer has the blessing of those in power we are forced to face the fact that our faith in God has been weak because our faith in the government has been strong.  We no longer belong to the favoured faction meaning we will need to believe in God to supply our needs. The truth is we were never safe. Instead, we bought into the lies that we were in a country of Christians, at least the majority were. With that lie becoming our truth we relied on our government for special funding and incentives to give money so that we could operate as well as legislation so that we would know right and wrong.

New this year, Canada limits summer job grants to those who agree with the government’s stand on abortion and sexual orientation.

Churches are up in arms; left scrambling for funding. Many will have to go to the congregation for donations to keep their programs going.

Our Prime Minister has been called the Anti-Christ and church leaders have predicted his fate once God takes action.

With Satan’s propaganda about being a Christian country now exposed…

…Satan is still winning the propaganda war.

We are still wrapped up in the desire to return to the illusion of what we thought we once were.

We are still overwhelmed by the loss of the support from the thing we put our faith in, the government.

We are still forgetting the people who we are called to reach with the gospel message just like we once did when we considered our country to be Christian.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Matthew 5:43-45 (NIV)

  1. Excellent post, David. This warfare is much bigger than just the government and the church. The church is so divided on social issues today that we have become ineffective in our society. The only real solace we have is that Jesus said the gates of hell will not prevail against His church. I believe a revival will come – mot likely in a very nontraditional way. Our hope is only in Him!

      1. Insightful and well expressed. I fear that revival will come only on the heels of a purging persecution of some form.

  2. Your point on weakening the army. Most hymnals have omitted Onward Christian Soldiers due to the prevailing idea that we shouldn’t wage war. I think most of those in that camp have already surrendered to the Devil without even knowing. Thanks for the post.

  3. I concur with every thing you have said here, Dave, and can only say I am sorry that the same has happened up your way as down here. We have taken some men to be our savior rather that the One who actually is…and now sit back and wait for him(small H) to make things right for us. Bad move there for sure.
