For me, the “like” is more to say “what you shared means something to me.” But that may just be me because I so often am unsure whether I have communicated effectively (even if people don’t necessarily agree with me).
It’s funny you say that – I was looking at the post this morning and looked at the like section and thought may be my need for approval was the target of my own post 😉
I think the likes were an approval of the concept rather than some humans patting another human on the back. It’s like one of those posts where someone tells you terrible things about their illness or suffering. Does the like convey liking the fact that they suffer? Or the fact that they are trusting in God in times of suffering?
I think I have met my long lost twin brother – I often click like and think to myself I don’t like what they are going through but I do like the post – We need the Facebook “sad face” response on WordPress

Good point we are communicating so the like button helps to show understanding rather than agreement, comments can be used for more depth
