Deeeeeep, way too deep for someone of my educational limitations. I have received an education from the world’s classroom and an honorary degree from the school of accumulative and applied experiences. Don’t look them up on the internet or contact the government to see if these are accredited schools. They do not have a physical location or a system of accountability to make sure they are successfully preparing students for the real world and neither offer any formal theological training. With that being said I am still going to take a shot at answering the question, is the Trinity really biblical? Keep reading, you might be surprised at my answer.

In 2021 the Trinity is not biblical…

Before you angrily exit out of my blog page and unfollow me forever, please take the time to understand how my education from the world’s classroom and the school of accumulative and applied experiences has formed my opinion. The first thing that must be understood about me is that I believe that, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” Hebrews 13:8 (NIV). I believe that Jesus is God and that The Spirit of God/Jesus is the Holy Spirit. This is truth from the beginning until now and will remain truth always because God never changes. Yet, I still contend that the Trinity is not biblical in 2021.

The Trinity may not have been biblical long before 2021…

I am not sure how much longer the Trinity will remain unbiblical after 2021. This statement is based on cultural relativism something I have been taught should never enter the interpretation of scripture. Let me assure you that cultural relativism has not entered my interpretation of scripture even though my education has been largely influenced by the world’s classroom and the school of accumulative and applied experiences. The cultural relativism I speak of is not mine but rather the infestation of culture in our churches and the teachings we have embraced.

The Father, The Son and…

We all know the Sunday school answer, The Holy Spirit. The accumulated statements in the Bible point to only one answer, God is God the only true God who dwells in heaven. God is Emmanuel (God with us) Jesus. God is Spirit dwelling in each person who follows the Christ, Jesus. This may be the answer that gets a star or a checkmark in Sunday school but is it the answer that is the foundation of how we live as followers of Christ and how we function as a collective of Christ followers? In 2021, I would have to say the majority of denominations have in one way or another embraced a different third person of the Trinity.

The Father, The Son and The Bible…

Our knowledge, our ability to memorize both scripture and doctrine and debate a point of view that is consistent with what we feel most comfortable believing has replaced the Holy Spirit as the one who reveals the meaning of scripture. “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 2:14 (NIV).

The Father, The Son and Good Programs…

Our marketing skills, our abilities to present a polished and palatable message have replaced the Holy Spirit with public shows and productions limited to what we can do in our own power. “I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” Luke24:49 (NIV). “This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words” 1 Corinthians 2:13 (NIV)

The Father, The Son and Prominence…

Our love for the riches and powers that the world loves makes us susceptible to the promises of name it and claim it preaching. We want more of what these so called successful Christians have so we blindly follow the formulas they peddle creating the illusion that God is a sugar daddy and The Holy Spirit a powerful tool to advance our quest to fulfill our personal desires. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…” Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV).

The Trinity is: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit… Is the spirit by which we achieve the call of God on our lives truly holy or have we replaced the power promised with our own? Is the church in decline today because we have embraced the culture of the world we live in and interpreted the Bible through its lens? Has the very wrong but very prominent saying, “God helps those who help themselves” become the replacement for the Spirit of the living God? Have we become those spoken of in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NIV) “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power…?” If so then true Christians, people who embrace the real Trinity should, “Have nothing to do with such people.”
