For some readers this blog is a little early, for others it’s a little late, so let’s just split the difference and say the timing is perfect! My American friends and family must find my post about six weeks too early. My fellow Canadians would say this post is one day late. To my American readers, we in Canada celebrate Thanksgiving early because the growing season is shorter and therefore the harvest is earlier. Prophetic words are used as king makers, scripture twisted as a call to arms. The enemy is no longer Satan but those who oppose our point of view. Our allies are now those who pay lip service to any one of our causes. When the pulpit is used to advance personal agenda, promote, elevate or defend oneself; when the platform becomes a fundraising, guilt tripping place of manipulation; when the sermon becomes a political rally for the party of choice, biblical truth soon is replaced by human ambitions and desires. Those who try to simplify life and those who try to complicate life undermine their need for obedient reaction to God’s requirements. Life is neither simple nor complex. To assign an all-encompassing adjective is to suggest that life is predictable and I think most of us would say that is not the case. (more…)
