A Little Understanding – “How-to” Do Church Books

                “…He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should   desire   him.” Isaiah 53:2

We can fix the problem in Isaiah 53:2. We can do an image makeover so that people will run to Him and the church. One makeover idea I have heard is; “we need some of that good old gospel preaching again, that will fix everything”. That good old gospel wasn’t the good news of the gospel, instead it was a way to scare the hell out of people. Fire and brimstone.  Jesus; the insurance policy against the coming disaster. Church was for the saved to feel guilty about their inability to live right and the unsaved to feel scared that they were even further away from living right. There was an aura of hopelessness that made those in attendance feel they could be sent straight to the fiery pit if for a moment they had a thought not in line with the teaching of the man in the pulpit. It didn’t matter that Jesus wasn’t beautiful or majestic, He was all that stood between you and eternal fire so you better learn to desire Him.

Holy S***** Guide Me Through and Beyond

If you asked me to perform tasks with my non-dominant hand, look out. After 52+ years of favouring one hand, suddenly asking me to do the opposite is not going to be easy. It should be simple shouldn’t it? With a little practice or maybe a lot of practice I should be able to overcome the underdeveloped skills and muscle tone to produce the same outcome previously achieved by my other hand shouldn’t I? Still, it is likely that once given the chance, I will return to my old way of doing things because it was the way I have always done things; it is easier.

Old Testament Law and COVID 19

What a title! Academics from around the world will be tuning in. People obsessed with the end times will be looking for prophetic ties. People who regularly read my blog may be expecting a lighthearted look at life now and then. I hate to disappoint all of you but this post is none of the above. This post is actually a response to the fringe elements in the Christian community that for some reason believe that the actions being taken to save lives somehow contravene their God given freedom and constitute a full out rebellion so that we can save ourselves from these godless people who would ask us or even order us to stay at home.

I Am Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

That’s a lot of people inside my head but don’t worry because the title is a little misleading. A more accurate title for this post would be, I Wish I Was Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. For those not familiar with my “I Am _____” series, this is usually the part where I add the disclaimer about me knowing that my name is really Dave followed by something that eludes to the fact that while I may be Dave I am still  Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego or whomever the title suggests I might be. This time is different. This time I can only wish I was Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
