Do We Really Know What to Celebrate?

In a few months my wife and I will celebrate 5 happy years of marriage. I’m not sure how that ranks with the rest of the world but I figure 5 happy years out of 29 years of marriage isn’t bad. A few days here, a couple of weeks there, one or two hours here, a few minutes there.  If you think I am joking you would be mistaken, we have been married for 29 years! (more…)

I Worked Hard to Get Here

I don’t want to brag – no really, I don’t want to brag. As a matter of fact just saying that “I worked hard to get here,” makes me want to stop writing and delete this post. To me success has always been around the corner, one more hour of work, one more burst of energy, one more practice and then I will finally realise true success. I have worked hard which leaves me with one question; have I worked hard enough? (more…)

Pawning Prayer

We stood beside our desks obediently responding to the unseen and yet familiar voice from above, “please stand for the playing of the national anthem and remain standing for the reading of The Lord’s Prayer.” All was right with the world or at least our corner of the world back then, but times have changed and morals have decayed, all because we have taken prayer out of schools. Action or Reaction?

How does a Christ follower live? How does a collective of Christ followers function? Are we to be people who take action or people who react? If you look at this question through a first world cultural lens you would have to say we are rewarded when we are people who take action. As we all know buried deep in the verses of that theological gem, 1 Condominiums, are these words meant to guide us as we seek to please God, “he who hesitates is lost.” 2 Condominiums also gives us insight into our responsibilities as God pleasing people with, “God helps those who help themselves.”
