Only in Western culture could you take the American dream and rework it from “you can do anything you put your mind to” into an “if you have enough faith, you can get God to do anything you want” doctrine.

possibly a preemptive do unto others as you would have them do unto you?

Scriptures, in or out of context, have been chosen to define what it is to live as a Christ follower. Those who have taken it upon themselves or who have been asked to lay out a map of Christian living look for verses that support their moral code and then make up a set of rules... Christ followers and even Christ deniers will recite the same standards for anyone who claims to be a Christian. The thick line between us and them is a bunch of rules that became the protective covering…

Stuck in The Entryway

"...Childlike faith is the key to the entire floor plan, starting with the entryway but going far beyond. We must believe that there is more, laying out our lives in such a way that we can discover it. Childish faith is just happy where it is, in the entryway..."

In our lives, in our churches, the biggest enemy of structural soundness is indecision. Whether we have heard a distinct calling from God or we are waiting for Him to speak, our human nature wants to know what is going on.
