Yes, Dave, I’ve witnessed this. It’s sad. May the church love and enjoy God so well that others ask the reason for our joy, hope, and love.

Amen. I went to a church evangelism team meeting – for support of my comedy night. I went for about three months. Each meeting discussed the event that I was doing, but then they covered normal business. I became frustrated by the discussion, but with your explanation, it has become clear. They were not evangelizing at all. They were recruiting recruiters to boost church membership growth with no thought of growing God’s kingdom. And the leader of the team was so proud of how the team had redefined the word ‘evangelism’ so that it was palatable among church members, instead of what it had been. Yes, when, 10 years ago, I had led the team and I could care less if they joined our church. I wanted people to meet Jesus.
