Where are you going?

Life dictates much of where we are going. If it needs to be done then that is where we are going. As a matter of fact I would suggest that most of us are so busy that we don’t ask ourselves where are we going but rather where do I need to be to get whatever task I have done.

Maybe it’s time to rethink the destination…

…to rethink where we are going. For those who have placed their trust in God we know where we are going when this life ends. We can’t hop in a car or on a plane or train to get there. All we can do is trust God. Where are we going? To spend eternity with God, eventually, and if it looks like I am doing nothing to getting there, it’s because I can’t, Jesus did it all.

While this makes great theology…

…it does not make for great instructions for the years we have left on earth.  Where we are going right now? As a follower of Christ we are following Christ:

We follow Christ when we go to work.

We follow Christ when we spend time with our families.

We follow Christ when we take care of daily chores.

We follow Christ when we go to church.

We follow Christ when we go out for a meal.

We follow Christ when we stay in for a meal.

We follow Christ when we watch TV.

We follow Christ when we mow the lawn.

Where are we going as followers of Christ?

It is not a destination but rather a way of life that reveals God to the world. We are heading closer and closer to Jesus by being more and more like Him wherever we go until one day we go to be with Him.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. Matthew 16:24 (NIV)
