Does God Exist?

Is there proof of an intelligent force that is beyond humanity? Did the universe become what we see today by chance or was there a cause behind all that we see? Is that “cause” still active today and if so, what does “active “mean? If you have come to the conclusion that there is something/someone that exists in a capacity far beyond the limits of human existence, what now?

Prove God Exists!

I am not a Christian apologist. Even if I was, I could not prove that God exists which puts me in the same category as the most brilliant apologists, a position I freely admit I should not hold. There are those who call themselves apologists who would debate my previous statement that it cannot be proven that God exists. I have encountered a few who promote Christianity through the insistence that God’s existence is probable, and trust me, by the time they get finished with a doubter, they have agreed with them if only to get away from the arrogant badgering of a well prepared, argumentative person who needs to be right and will gaslight anyone who dare oppose them. This is not evangelism, it is abusive and defeats the calling of all followers of Christ, make disciples of the one true God who they believe exists.

To truly believe in the Christian God means…

…you give up all that you are to become all you are called to be.  We who believe are called to deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Jesus. Proving something greater than us is the easy part. When I say easy, I mean it comparatively. The logic of a creator, the acceptance of the historical man called Jesus, the texts outside the Bible that include references to the life of Christ and the crucifixion and resurrection claim and the faith system it spawned are evidence of the God of the Bible. They are not proof, but they are convincing. I do not pretend to know all this but rather I am summarizing what people way smarter than I have presented as evidence of not just a God, but the God described in the collection of books that inform the followers of Christ of their history and calling.

There is evidence of a god and…

…evidence that that god is the God of the Bible, but what next? Please don’t misunderstand me, I am not trying to put down those who debate with agnostics, atheists and followers of other faith systems. With the power of the internet let’s assume that at some point all sides in the debate over the existence of God have been presented to as many people in the world that are interested in listening. Let’s also assume that a large majority of those people are convinced there is some kind of spiritual force akin to what has been referred to as a god/gods/God. Our final assumption is that the majority of these people come to the conclusion that the God of the Bible is the true God and the completion of His plan is through Jesus as documented in the New Testament. What next? To come to a conclusion would for most people mean to come to believe.

I believe that the facts are true.

I believe something to be true when the evidence for or against an idea reaches a point that only one conclusion is true or at least only one conclusion is more plausible than any other. I believe but is that what belief really is? I think that is what it has become. You prove to me that there is evidence  of a god and I will agree, but we are not called to agree that a god exists. We are not called to believe that the God of the Bible both new and old testaments exists. We are called out. We are to be changed by what we have come to know to be true. We are to go beyond the evidence that convinces us that the God of the Bible is the one true God and respond. As Paul  stated in Romans 12:2 (NIV) Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind… Change is the sign of belief. To believe is to live a life sold out so much that you are willing to die for what you have come to know as true.

Just because you agree the evidence points to the  existence of the God of the Bible does mean you truly believe  “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21 (NIV)
