We want a God that doesn’t rock the boat, a God that thinks like we think, a God that is no more than we can understand. God is so much more and we would be wise to step out of our comfort zone and seek God beyond our own terms.
It is American Thanksgiving, a time for family and friends to be thankful that: Black Friday is tomorrow, there’s lots of football today, there’s food cooking in the oven or exploding in the deep fryer and most importantly the bathroom scale is reading 15 lbs lighter than your real weight. (more…)
I never want to be called a hairsplitter. It would hurt me deeply if I found out that people avoided me because they were worried I would correct them over the simplest misuse of a word or phrase. Most of us have met someone that strives to better themselves by inundating others with useless facts and petty corrections. That’s not me, at least I hope it isn’t. I would not blame you if you started reading this post thinking it was going to be about the church practices we grew up with and the grip they can have on us. I would not be shocked if you approached my words with a “haven’t we changed enough” attitude, after all the music in church has been modernized and the dress code revised and the sermons simplified.
