I Am Still Fishing

I announced in my last post (Gone Fishing), that I am taking a short break from blogging due to health issues. As you read that post you most likely assumed that I was cutting back on other areas of my life as an extension of what I was dealing with. This assumption was right except for one thing.

Friday was my Dad’s 90th birthday.

As a surprise my sister arranged for me to preach at their church on Sunday and for the Nothing to Hide worship band, my worship band that includes myself, my wife, two of my sons and my daughter-in-law on stage and my other son on sound, to lead worship. I contemplated canceling on and off for the past three months and seriously considered it this past month simply because my health was worsening but you only get one crack at 90 years old. With every ounce of energy I would practice. With all I had I put together the sermon. I was not going to let my parents, especially my dad, down on this special day.

Things took a turn for the worse on Friday night.

I started a new slow release pain killer on Thursday in hopes that I could sleep through the night instead of getting up to take pills and having trouble falling back to sleep. Sadly Friday night one of the side effects reared its ugly head. People who have seizures, people like me, can have their seizure threshold lowered by this drug and, well, that’s exactly what happened. It wasn’t a full blown seizure because the medicine for my epilepsy was able to limit it, but it was bad enough to scare me and my wife who was there for the whole thing. Needless to say I am off that drug!

God is bigger than my health problems.

I lived all of Saturday and Sunday scared of another seizure. Saturday was just practice and running through my sermon so there was a little less worry, but Sunday… who wants to have a seizure at the front of the church on live streaming Facebook?   5. I praise God for you Brother! So I got to listen to the sermon two times now! Going to send you an email in a day or two and will let you know on FB when it’s sent. Love you Brother. Will never stop praying for God’s will to be made clear and for your health.

  7. Again, praying. My son has conversion disorder. He spent 2.5 months out of work as a school teacher, because the school could not risk him having a seizure in the classroom. So I understand that. Our son is back to work for about a month, but it’s been shaky. He seems to have lost his confidence. You know and draw from God’s strength. I pray that our son’s faith grows so that he can do the same.

    And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16 So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”17 Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” 18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour….Matthew 17:14-18

    There are some things that we face, from a health perspective in particular, that ONLY Jesus can fix. Sadly, we’ve dubbed the medical community as the Lord’s cure-all, but in fact, it isn’t and was never supposed to have been given such spiritual credit. So I’m standing at the foot of the cross for you on this. In Jesus name, be healed from this sickness!

      2. We’ve read for years, the story of the woman “who was healed” of her sickness who had been sick for 12 years. What has always spoken to me about her story were the details that Jesus left us record of, concerning her condition, which I BELIEVE are meant for us to learn from, today…

        * she had been sick for 12 years..
        * she had suffered many things from the physicians..
        * she had spent all she had, but was no better, but grew worse..

        But on this said day, something shifted. Her focus went from looking for healing and help from doctors or the medical community, to looking solely to Jesus. Some would argue that this was then and it doesn’t apply to us now, but I beg to differ, GOD STILL heals and wants to heal us, we just have to look solely unto Him!

        This woman knew and believed that Jesus had the power to heal, and she also knew that He didn’t have to physically lay His hands on her, her faith just needed to touch Him. When we garner our faith and go to the throne of God with our situation, He sees our faith, and bestows His healing upon us…

        “And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”

        I can hear the Lord saying to you since Sunday, Dave, your faith has made you well, Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction… Walk it out bro!!!
