New Year’s Renovation

We all have things we want to change about ourselves, things that we believe would make life better. From the shape of our nose to the contents of our wardrobe, from our home to the car we drive, at some point every one of us has thought that external changes will make internal struggles subside. It is the basis of all marketing: do this and make life better. What if we changed what changes us? What if the eternal influenced the internal which in turn changed the external? What if you/your church made 2023 a year of renovation, not a makeover but instead strip everything back to the footings and rebuild stronger and better than ever before?

It’s no different than any blueprint.

Once you have the plans for any project it’s time to sit down and review them from start to finish. Before you start to renovate here is some biblical advice:

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ Luke 14:28-30 (NIV)

Once you have your copy of Blueprint for the Christ follower and Collective of Christ Followers in hand, read it from start to finish. Understand the whole plan before you break it down into each step. When you have considered the cost and are willing to renovate (trust me, it’s worth it) you/your small group/your whole church can break it down into smaller steps by using the online Blueprint study questions to renovate your Christ following life and your collective of Christ followers.

It’s different than any blueprint.

Unlike blueprints for renovating a house, Blueprint does not draw out your completed project. I know, it sounds strange to offer a blueprint for following Christ as an individual and a collective that doesn’t contain the finished project but when you think about it, who can honestly claim to know God’s exact plan for each individual and each church?

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. Isaiah 55:8 (NIV)

Unlike the numerous how-to Christian living/church life books published every year, Blueprint does not claim to have the blueprint for your individual life or your own church but instead, Blueprint for the Christ follower and Collective of Christ Followers is a plan you and your church can use to seek God’s will, done God’s way, in God’s time, using God’s chosen resources.
