The Cost of Saying Nothing Is Too High

I have gone over and over it in my head. I have weighed the consequences. I have played out every possible scenario and cannot see a path that avoids paying a price. Maybe I should stay silent. How bad can it be; If I say nothing, nothing will happen. Maybe that’s the safest choice. Or maybe I can find a path that maximizes gain and minimizes pain. What should I do? How should I proceed? In the end will it be worth it?

The cost of staying silent is too high.

I’m not sure who will continue to follow my blog or buy my book. I’m not sure how many friends I will have left when all is said and done. I don’t care. Well, that’s not true, I do, in my worldly desire to fit in, care what others think of me. I want to be liked. I want to be popular. I want my blog to be read and my book to sell. Still, the cost of saying nothing or even worse, going along with what others are saying, is too high.

True Christian faith has been hijacked.

I am sure many who call themselves Christians would agree with me if I went on a rant about abortion, gay marriage mixed in with transgender issues. So, I will throw in my thoughts on abortion, gay marriage and transgender issues. These issues have been used to highjack Christianity. The moment someone beats their chest and proclaims that they are going to pass a law, the ungodly behaviour of the chest beater is overlooked and even excused because the noise of the rant becomes a blindfold and earplugs to those who are looking for a saviour. Sadly, many of those who are looking for a saviour claim to have already found The Saviour but it doesn’t seem to be enough. What I just said may cost me readers but the cost of staying silent is too high.

“Satan masquerades as an angel of light.”

(2 Cor 11:14 (NIV)“For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.”(2 Cor 11:4 NIV). I have heard another gospel preached, one that furthers the individual, one that looks to worldly riches, one that puts country over God in the name of God by people whose actions and words are ungodly. An unrepentant womanizer, a liar, a master manipulator, a bombastic, angry, unloving, power and money hungry man and his followers use God to strengthen their position with those who say they follow Jesus. Jesus preached humility, speaking truth, making your yes mean yes and your no mean no, the authority of God not man and the laying up of treasures in heaven. Therefore, the cost of staying silent is too high.

We have been used.

Satan is winning because many have followed the ungodly in hope that godly outcomes will somehow happen. As church attendance falls and those, including myself who are no longer willing to call themselves evangelical Christians plummet, many money and power hungry people become the face of Christianity. We have been used to further the plans of the evil one and many don’t see it. If you stop one abortion or gay marriage or make sure one person does not live as the opposite gender, what have you achieved? If they never follow Christ, what have we accomplished? Who gains from this?

Those who seek power and money at any cost have the most to gain. We are being used by Satan and those who do his bidding to pervert the message of the gospel which is salvation and transformation not Legislative Evangelism. Instead of presenting the gospel to people so that they will be given the chance to be changed, to be more like Jesus, we rely on those who act nothing like Jesus to pass laws that force people to be the way that we want them to be. The cost of staying silent is too high.

Let me step back a bit so you don’t get the wrong idea.

I do not think abortion is right, as a matter of fact I exist because an unwed mother did not have an abortion but rather opted to put me up for adoption. I do not think that practicing homosexuality is in line with God’s design for His creation. I do not think that God makes mistakes putting people in the wrong body. I also don’t think that making it illegal to commit certain sins is the best way to carry out the call of Christ to make disciples. I know this falls apart eventually, I know that fully played out everything would be legal and that would never work, but wouldn’t it be more effective to have people follow Christ and therefore choose a transformed life than to force people to follow rules even if they don’t follow Jesus?

The cost of staying silent is too high.

We need to take back Christianity, especially evangelical Christianity. We need to trust the power of God for change rather than compromising some of the Bible’s teachings to have other teachings enshrined into law. We need to stand up as followers of Christ and challenge those who would use our faith as a political platform so they can gain power. The teachings of Christ in the Bible and the teaching of man using the Bible are not the same! These words should have sent a shiver down the spine of all who follow Christ; “I was saved by God to make America great again” upon hearing this, I shuttered, I felt sick to my stomach and experienced a level of deep sadness that has now become anger. I do believe God saved Mr. Trump but not to advance worldly ideas but rather give those who believe in Christ a chance to stand up against them. The president in my view was saved by God to give followers of Christ a chance to make the Name of the only true God great again in American and around the world by calling out those who would use His name and His followers for personal gain. “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. Exodus 20:7 NIV .

Note: I am not making a partisan statement in support of any political party. I am not an American, but we have seen the same attempts to invoke the name of Jesus to further a political agenda in Canada and it continues. This may be the last time some of you visit my blog and that’s okay, the price of this loss is much lower than the price of staying silent.

  1. I thank you for your courage to write this blog, Dave. Trump has made a mockery of Christianity , and sadly his followers have been brainwashed by him. He is a narcissistic, evil man , with no compassion for anyone but himself. I so hope and pray that the American government, and Trump’s followers realize this soon, before it is too late. God is a loving God, not anything like what this evil man spews out. People wake up, this is frightening! I for one, will happily continue to read your blog. It is refreshing in a time of such evil. What you say is Christian and true. God Bless You, Dave!

  2. Dave,

Not sure why you included that video. I voted for Trump only because he was the best candidate on the ballot. I think that the attempted assignation of him in Pennsylvanian brought him closer to the Lord.

    1. I pray that those around him are pointing him to Christ not pointing him to ways to use Christ – I am concerned that the main ingredient of a follower of Christ is repentance from worldly behavior but the pulpit and politics has become an invitation to embrace the ruler of the world under the disguise of following Christ. I would be a Republican if I were an American but I would also make sure that people knew that my faith caused me to strongly disagree with the unChrist-like behaviour that is more than ever excused 1 Timothy 6:10 would be the driving force behind my belief why Christianity has been hijacked

On the other hand the misinterpretation of what love is by those who tend to be on the left to permit sin clearly called out in the Bible is just as much of a hijacking of the Christian faith.
