Wisdom The Hard Way

I know a lot of stuff. I’m not bragging, you know a lot of stuff too! We all know a lot of stuff. That doesn’t make us smart and, unless applied correctly, it doesn’t even make us competent. Our brains are full of stuff. The smartest people in the world have additional stuff in comparison to us average people. The rest of us, the less smart and even lesser smart people know stuff. The truly wise people, they know stuff too but there is something more, something different about the stuff they know or at least to the way that stuff is incorporated in their lives.

Objects In The Rear View Mirror…

…are closer than they appear. If you drive you have read this; hopefully not while you were driving! The curve of the mirror distorts the image creating the appearance that it is further than it really is. While this is helpful to know when changing lanes or backing up it is even more useful when we apply the premise to our walk with Christ. When we look back, there are times in our lives that God seems so far away. Our human perception like the rear view mirror can distort how we see God. Add the lies of Satan and not only does God seem far away but the road behind seems so dark it’s as if the light of the world was nowhere to be found.

Is Jordan Peterson a Christian?

I get this question often from people who know I enjoy reading books by and listening to, Dr. Peterson (even Maps of Meaning – way out of my league but I am enjoying it). If you do not know who he is, a quick search will reveal his many accomplishments and controversies. I would consider him one of our greatest modern-day philosophers. Dr. Peterson is a licensed psychologist (for now) and a best-selling author. His YouTube videos give us a glimpse into his thought process. For most of us a glimpse is all we can handle! He has a command of the English language that in itself, can describe everyday events with such depth that you might even believe you can touch, taste, see and smell them as he speaks. Not to be outdone by his vocabulary is his willingness and rarely matched ability to process the many layers of who we are and why we are that way on an individual and societal level. With this description, I do not believe I have even scratched the surface and I don’t believe I can. With that being said, I am still willing to attempt to address his Christ following status although I still may only scratch the surface!

What Does It Matter?

In a world that celebrates furthering one’s own interests and desires, we mourn the loss of Judeo-Christian values but often propose selfish reasons for seeking their return. We pick and choose what morals dominated the actions of those who came before us. We choose to remember the good times as we don rose-coloured glasses combined with blinders so that we can create a future dream based on a past hallucination to try to exterminate our current nightmare.

I Am Out of Words

At least that’s what I have felt for the last year. What used to pop into my head and rattle around until it was ready to be assembled into a blog post has been nowhere to be found. Once in a while there would be something, but that something was really nothing but a longing to have something come out of what popped into my head, but nothing popped into my head that was anything close to becoming something. I am not sure you can write a blog on not being able to write a blog because you have nothing without creating a blog that is a lot of nothing trying to masquerade as something. I still believe I have something to say…

What If It Is All Taken Away?

Have you ever imagined life without the things and people that make it special? For some the loss of those closest to them has become a reality while others are coming to grips with the fact that the unavoidable isn’t far away. The remainder are aware that life, even if it is going perfectly at this point, will at some point be interrupted by loss. I must admit as self-absorbed as it seems, lately I have been more focused on the potential loss of the things that make me, me.
